From Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Bridge on this fine morningA
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
In a cloud of fiery pale chemicalsB
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
to the rapid rolling of thousands of small blue drumsC
descending out of the mackerel skyD
over the glittering grandstand of harbor waterE
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp pl ease come flyingA
-
Whistles pennants and smoke are blowing The shipsF
are signaling cordially with multitudes of flagsG
rising and falling like birds all over the harborE
Enter two rivers gracefully bearingA
countless little pellucid jelliesH
in cut glass epergnes dragging with silver chainsI
The flight is safe the weather is all arrangedJ
The waves are running in verses this fine morningA
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp Please come flyingA
-
Come with the pointed toe of each black shoeK
trailing a sapphire highlightL
with a black capeful of butterfly wings and bon motsM
with heaven knows how many angels all ridingA
on the broad black brim of your hatN
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
-
Bearing a musical inaudible abacusO
a slight censorious frown and blue ribbonsP
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
Facts and skyscrapers glint in the tide ManhattanQ
is all awash with morals this fine morningA
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp so please come flyingA
-
Mounting the sky with natural heroismR
above the accidents above the malignant moviesH
the taxicabs and injustices at largeS
while horns are resounding in your beautiful earsT
that simultaneously listen toK
a soft uninvented music fit for the musk deerU
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
-
For whom the grim museums will behaveV
like courteous male bower birdsW
for whom the agreeable lions lie in waitX
on the steps of the Public LibraryY
eager to rise and follow through the doorsZ
up into the reading roomsA2
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
We can sit down and weep we can go shoppingA
or play at a game of constantly being wrongB2
with a priceless set of vocabulariesA2
or we can bravely deplore but pleaseA2
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
-
With dynasties of negative constructionsA2
darkening and dying around youK
with grammar that suddenly turns and shinesA2
like flocks of sandpipers flyingA
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
-
Come like a light in the white mackerel skyD
come like a daytime cometC2
with a long unnebulous train of wordsA2
from Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Bridge on this fine morningA
nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp nbsp please come flyingA
