Five Flights Up Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHI JBKLM NOPQRS TUVWHX

Still darkA
The unknown bird sits on his usual branchB
The little dog next door barks in his sleepC
inquiringly just onceD
Perhaps in his sleep too the bird inquiresE
once or twice quaveringF
Questions if that is what they areG
answered directly simplyH
by day itselfI
-
Enormous morning ponderous meticulousJ
gray light streaking each bare branchB
each single twig along one sideK
making another tree of glassy veinsL
The bird still sits there Now he seems to yawnM
-
The little black dog runs in his yardN
His owner's voice arises sternO
You ought to be ashamedP
What has he doneQ
He bounces cheerfully up and downR
he rushes in circles in the fallen leavesS
-
Obviously he has no sense of shameT
He and the bird know everything is answeredU
all taken care ofV
no need to ask againW
Yesterday brought to today so lightlyH
A yesterday I find almost impossible to liftX
