Cirque D'hiver Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBB DEFGE HIBII HJKJJ BLMML

Across the floor flits the mechanical toyA
fit for a king of several centuries backB
A little circus horse with real white hairC
His eyes are glossy blackB
He bears a little dancer on his backB
-
She stands upon her toes and turns and turnsD
A slanting spray of artificial rosesE
is stitched across her skirt and tinsel bodiceF
Above her head she posesG
another spray of artificial rosesE
-
His mane and tail are straight from ChiricoH
He has a formal melancholy soulI
He feels her pink toes dangle toward his backB
along the little poleI
that pierces both her body and her soulI
-
and goes through his and reappears belowH
under his belly as a big tin keyJ
He canters three steps then he makes a bowK
canters again bows on one kneeJ
canters then clicks and stops and looks at meJ
-
The dancer by this time has turned her backB
He is the more intelligent by farL
Facing each other rather desperately mdashM
his eye is like a star mdashM
we stare and say Well we have come this farL
