Chemin De Fer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIJ KLML KNOP

Alone on the railroad trackA
I walked with pounding heartB
The ties were too close togetherC
or maybe too far apartB
-
The scenery was impoverishedD
scrub pine and oak beyondE
its mingled gray green foliageF
I saw the little pondE
-
where the dirty old hermit livesG
lie like an old tearH
holding onto its injuriesI
lucidly year after yearJ
-
The hermit shot off his shot gunK
and the tree by his cabin shookL
Over the pond went a rippleM
The pet hen went chook chookL
-
Love should be put into actionK
screamed the old hermitN
Across the pond an echoO
tried and tried to confirm itP
