Be Kind When You Can Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH GIGI JKJK

Be kind when you can though the kindness be littleA
'Tis small letters make up philosophers' scrollsB
The crystal of Happiness vivid and brittleA
Can seldom be cut into very large bowlsB
-
'Tis atoms that dwell in the measureless mountainC
'Tis moments that sum up the century's flightD
'Tis but drops that unite in Niagara's fountainC
'Tis rays single rays from the harvest sun lightD
-
Stone by stone builds the temple that rises in gloryE
Inch by inch grows the child till maturity's primeF
The jewels so famous in bright Eastern storyE
Have been nursed tint by tint in the blossom of TimeF
-
'Tis grains make the desert sheet trackless and spreadingG
'Tis but petals that deck every blossom twinned sprayH
There are leaves only leaves where the forest is sheddingG
Its gloom till the density shuts out the dayH
-
A word or a glance which we give 'without thinking'G
May shadow or lighten some sensitive breastI
And the draught from the well spring is wine in the drinkingG
If quaffed from the brim that Affection has blestI
-
Then be kind when you can in the smallest of dutiesJ
Don't wait for the larger expressions of LoveK
For the heart depends less for its joys and its beautiesJ
On the flight of the Eagle than coo of the DoveK
