A Hollow Elm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDE FGCGHH IJKJLL MCMCNO LBLCPQ

What hast thou not withstoodA
Tempest despising treeB
Whose bloat and riven woodA
Gapes now so hollowlyC
What rains have beaten thee through many yearsD
What snows from off thy branches dripped like tearsE
-
Calmly thou standest nowF
Upon thy sunny moundG
The first spring breezes flowC
Past with sweet dizzy soundG
Yet on thy pollard top the branches fewH
Stand stiffly out disdain to murmur tooH
-
The children at thy footI
Open new lighted eyesJ
Where on gnarled bark and rootK
The soft warm sunshine liesJ
Dost thou upon thine ancient sides resentL
The touch of youth quick and impermanentL
-
These at the beck of springM
Live in the moment stillC
Thy boughs unquiveringM
Remembering winter's chillC
And many other winters past and goneN
Are mocked not cheated by the transient sunO
-
Hast thou so much withstoodL
Tempest despising treeB
That now thy hollow woodL
Stiffens disdainfullyC
Against the soft spring airs and soft spring rainP
Knowing too well that winter comes againQ
