Softly into the saddleA
Of my black horse with white feetB
Your brothers are frowningC
And grasping swords in sleepD
My rifle is as clean as moonlightE
My flints are newF
My long grey sword is sighingC
In his blue sheathG
Fatima gave me my grey swordH
Of Temrouk steelI
Damascened in red goldJ
To cut a pathway for the feet of loveK
-
My eye is dark and keenL
My hand has never trembled on the swordH
If your brothers rise and followM
On their stormy horsesN
If they stretch their hot handsO
To catch you from my breastP
My rifle shall not sing to themQ
My steel shall spareR
My rifle's song is for my yellow girlS
My eye is dark and keenL
I'll send my bullet to the fairest heartT
That ever lady loved with in the worldU
-
My hand upon the swordH
Shall be so strongV
He'll find the little laughing placeW
Where you dance in my breastP
And we'll have no more of the silly worldU
Where our lips must lie apartT
We'll let death pour our soulsX
Into one cupY
And mount like joyous birds to GodZ
With hearts on fireA2
And God will mingle us into one shapeB2
In an eternal garden of gold starsC2
