Paradise my darling know that paradiseA
The Prophet given paradise after deathB
Is far and very mysterious and most highC
My habits would be upset in such a placeD
-
Without impiety I should be mortally wearyE
If I went there alone without my wifeF
An ugly crowding of inferior femalesG
What should I do with the hourisG
-
What should I do with those tall loaded fruit treesG
Seeing I could not give the fruit to youH
What by the freshness of those blue streamsG
Seeing my face reflected there aloneI
-
And it might be worse if you came with meE
For all of Allah's Chosen would desire youH
And if Mahomet threw his handkerchiefJ
And took you up and loved you for himselfK
-
Eyes of my eyes how could I then defend youH
I could not be at ease and watch him love youH
And if I mutinied against the ProphetL
He being zealous to love you in his peaceG
-
Would rise and send me hurryingM
Back by the sword blade thinness of the bridgeN
From paradise to earth and in the middleO
Flick me down sideways to the fires of hellP
-
My skin would cook and be renewed for everQ
Where murderers were burning and renewingM
And evil souls my only crime being loveR
Would burn me and annoy me and destroy meE
-
If I were there and you in paradiseG
I could not even make my prayer to AllahS
That in his justice he should give me backT
My paradiseG
-
Let us love therefore on the earth togetherQ
Our love is our garden let us take great careU
Whisper and call pet names and kiss each otherQ
To live our paradise as long as may beE
