It Came Upon The Midnight Clear Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIJKELE MNBNOEME PQFQREPE SBTBCENE

It came upon the midnight clearA
That glorious song of oldB
From angels bending near the earthC
To touch their harps of goldB
Peace on the earth good will to menD
From heaven's all gracious KingE
The world in solemn stillness layF
To hear the angels singE
-
Still through the cloven skies they comeG
With peaceful wings unfurlH
And still their heavenly music floatsI
O'er all the weary worldJ
Above its sad and lowly plainsK
They bend on hovering wingE
And ever o'er its Babel soundsL
The blessed angels singE
-
Yet with the woes of sin and strifeM
The world has suffered longN
Beneath the angel strain have rolledB
Two thousand years of wrongN
And man at war with man hears notO
The love song which they bringE
O hush the noise ye men of strifeM
And hear the angels singE
-
And ye beneath life's crushing loadP
Whose forms are bending lowQ
Who toil along the climbing wayF
With painful steps and slowQ
Look now for glad and golden hoursR
Come swiftly on the wingE
O rest beside the weary roadP
And hear the angels singE
-
For lo the days are hastening onS
By prophet bards foretoldB
When with the ever circling yearsT
Shall come the Age of GoldB
When peace shall over all the earthC
Its ancient splendors flingE
And all the world give back the songN
Which now the angels singE
