When We're All Alike Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGDGD HIHIEDJD KLKLIDID

I've trudged life's highway up and downA
I've watched the lines of men march byB
I've seen them in the busy townA
And seen them under country skyB
I've talked with toilers in the ranksC
And walked with men whose hands were whiteD
And learned when closed were stores and banksC
We're nearly all alike at nightD
-
Just find the wise professor whenE
He isn't lost in ancient loreF
And he like many other menE
Romps with his children on the floorF
He puts his gravity asideG
To share in innocent delightD
Stripped of position's pomp and prideG
We're nearly all the same at nightD
-
Serving a common cause we goH
Unto our separate tasks by dayI
And rich or poor or great or lowH
Regardless of their place or payI
Cherish the common dreams of menE
A home where love and peace uniteD
We serve the self same end and planJ
We're all alike when it is nightD
-
Each for his loved ones wants to doK
His utmost Brothers are we allL
When we have run the work day throughK
In romping with our children smallL
Rich men and poor delight in playI
When care and caste have taken flightD
At home in all we think and sayI
We're very much the same at nightD
