the railroad trackA
Or a big boat ride which he often doesB
Oh I 'm orful glad when he's back becozB
Jes' as soon as he's kissed my ma an' meC
He laffs an' says 'Come along an' seeC
The wonderful things in my old black gripD
The things I got on my little trip 'E
-
Nen he puts his grip on a parlor chairF
An' he says to me 'Now stand right thereF
An' we'll jes' see what is inside o' thisB
But first we'll all have another kiss '-
Nen he opens his grip an' it's jes' crammed tightG
With toys an' things Oh I wish you mightG
Be there some day when my Pa gets backA
To see the things in his old grip sackA
-
There's allus a doll for his little girlH
Which is me a doll with a yellow curlH
An' the very last time that he went awayI
I really couldn't begin to sayI
All the wonderful things that he brought to meC
Coz I 'd been good as I said I 'd beC
I 'm sure that I couldn't tell them allJ
But one was a new pink parasolJ
-
An' he brought me some books an' some candy tooK
An' anuvver dolly all dressed in blueK
An' a broom jes' made for a girl like meC
An' the nicest hair ribbons ever you seeC
An' a spade an' a rake to dig in sandL
An' some dishes my Ma says are HeavylandL
I cry when my Pa goes away but whenM
He gets back home I am glad againM
