When A Little Baby Dies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCBBDE FGDHIIJ KKLMII H

When a little baby diesA
And the wee form silent liesA
And the little cheeks seem waxenB
And the little hands are stillC
Then your soul gives way to treasonB
And you cry 'O God what reasonB
O what justice and what mercyD
Have You shown us by Your will 'E
-
'Oh there are so many hereF
Of the yellow leaf and sereG
Who are anxious aye and readyD
To respond unto Your callH
Yet You pass them by unheedingI
And You set our hearts to bleedingI
Oh how bitterly upon usJ
Do Your vaunted mercies fall '-
-
Yet some day in after yearsK
When Death's angel once more nearsK
And the unknown silent riverL
Looms as darkly as a pallM
You will hear your baby sayingI
'Mamma come to me I'm stayingI
With my arms outstretched to greet you '-
And you'll understand it allH
