arthA
With spotless plumes and shining shields to joustB
with foes and prove our worthC
The world is but a battlefield where strong andD
weak men fill the listsE
And some make war with humble prayers andD
some with swords and some with fistsE
And some for pleasure or for peace forsake theirF
purposes and goalsG
And barter for the scarlet joys of ease and pompH
their knightly soulsG
-
We're all enlisted soldiers here in service forI
the term called lifeJ
And each of us in some grim way must bear hisK
portion of the strifeJ
Temptations everywhere assail Men do not riseL
by fearing sinM
Nor he who keeps within his tent unharmedN
unscratched the crown shall winM
When wrongs are trampling mortals down andD
rank injustice stalks aboutO
Real manhood to the battle flies and dies or putsP
the foes to routO
-
'Tis not the new and shining blade that marksQ
the soldier of the fieldR
His glory is his broken sword his pride theS
scars upon his shieldR
The crimson stains that sin has left upon hisK
soul are tongues that speakT
The victory of new found strength by one whoU
yesterday was weakT
And meaningless the spotless plume the shiningV
blade that goes through lifeJ
And quits this naming battlefield without oneW
evidence of strifeJ
-
We all are warriors with sin we all are knightsX
in life's crusadesY
And with some form of tyranny we're sent toU
earth to measure bladesY
The courage of the soul must gleam in conflictZ
with some fearful foeA2
No man was ever born to life its luxuries aloneB2
to knowA2
And he who brothers with a sin to keep his outwardC2
garb unsoiledC2
And fears to battle with a wrong shall find hisK
soul decayed and spoiledC2
