With spotless plumes and shining shields to joust | B |
with foes and prove our worth | C |
The world is but a battlefield where strong and | D |
weak men fill the lists | E |
And some make war with humble prayers and | D |
some with swords and some with fists | E |
And some for pleasure or for peace forsake their | F |
purposes and goals | G |
And barter for the scarlet joys of ease and pomp | H |
their knightly souls | G |
- | |
We're all enlisted soldiers here in service for | I |
the term called life | J |
And each of us in some grim way must bear his | K |
portion of the strife | J |
Temptations everywhere assail Men do not rise | L |
by fearing sin | M |
Nor he who keeps within his tent unharmed | N |
unscratched the crown shall win | M |
When wrongs are trampling mortals down and | D |
rank injustice stalks about | O |
Real manhood to the battle flies and dies or puts | P |
the foes to rout | O |
- | |
'Tis not the new and shining blade that marks | Q |
the soldier of the field | R |
His glory is his broken sword his pride the | S |
scars upon his shield | R |
The crimson stains that sin has left upon his | K |
soul are tongues that speak | T |
The victory of new found strength by one who | U |
yesterday was weak | T |
And meaningless the spotless plume the shining | V |
blade that goes through life | J |
And quits this naming battlefield without one | W |
evidence of strife | J |
- | |
We all are warriors with sin we all are knights | X |
in life's crusades | Y |
And with some form of tyranny we're sent to | U |
earth to measure blades | Y |
The courage of the soul must gleam in conflict | Z |
with some fearful foe | A2 |
No man was ever born to life its luxuries alone | B2 |
to know | A2 |
And he who brothers with a sin to keep his outward | C2 |
garb unsoiled | C2 |
And fears to battle with a wrong shall find his | K |
soul decayed and spoiled | C2 |
