Rhyme Scheme: ABACDED FGHGIJHJ KALAMDND BOKOCDPDtrace of a sigh | A |
The things on a shelf that I'd like for myself | B |
I never regret I can't buy | A |
I can go through the town passing store after store | C |
Showing things it would please me to own | D |
With never a trace of despair on my face | E |
But I can't let a toy shop alone | D |
- | |
I can throttle the love of fine raiment to death | F |
And I don't know the craving for rum | G |
But I do know the joy that is born of a toy | H |
And the pleasure that comes with a drum | G |
I can reckon the value of money at times | I |
And govern my purse strings with sense | J |
But I fall for a toy for my girl or my boy | H |
And never regard the expense | J |
- | |
It's seldom I sigh for unlimited gold | K |
Or the power of a rich man to buy | A |
My courage is stout when the doing without | L |
Is only my duty but I | A |
Curse the shackles of thrift when I gaze at the toys | M |
That my kiddies are eager to own | D |
And I'd buy everything that they wish for by Jing | N |
If their mother would let me alone | D |
- | |
There isn't much fun spending coin on myself | B |
For neckties and up to date lids | O |
But there's pleasure tenfold in the silver and gold | K |
I part with for things for the kids | O |
I can go through the town passing store after store | C |
Showing things it would please me to own | D |
But to thrift I am lost I won't reckon the cost | P |
When I'm left in a toy shop alone | D |
