To A Young Man Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCADDAEEFFAGGBHHI IBJJAKKLLADD

The great were once as youA
They whom men magnify to dayB
Once groped and blundered on life's wayB
Were fearful of themselves and thoughtC
By magic was men's greatness wroughtC
They feared to try what they could doA
Yet Fame hath crowned with her successD
The selfsame gifts that you possessD
The great were young as youA
Dreaming the very dreams you holdE
Longing yet fearing to be boldE
Doubting that they themselves possessedF
The strength and skill for every testF
Uncertain of the truths they knewA
Not sure that they could stand to fateG
With all the courage of the greatG
Then came a day when theyB
Their first bold venture madeH
Scorning to cry for aidH
They dared to stand to fight aloneI
Took up the gauntlet life had thrownI
Charged full front to the frayB
Mastered their fear of self and thenJ
Learned that our great men are but menJ
Oh youth go forth and doA
You too to fame may riseK
You can be strong and wiseK
Stand up to life and play the manL
You can if you'll but think you canL
The great were once as youA
You envy them their proud successD
'Twas won with gifts that you possessD
