Tied Down Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDE DDFGHHII JJKLMMNN OOPPQQRR SSRRTTU

'They tie you down ' a woman saidA
Whose cheeks should have been flaming redA
With shame to speak of children soB
'When babies come you cannot goB
In search of pleasure with your friendsC
And all your happy wandering endsC
The things you like you cannot doD
For babies make a slave of you 'E
-
I looked at her and said ''Tis trueD
That children make a slave of youD
And tie you down with many a knotF
But have you never thought to whatG
It is of happiness and prideH
That little babies have you tiedH
Do you not miss the greater joysI
That come with little girls and boysI
-
'They tie you down to laughter rareJ
To hours of smiles and hours of careJ
To nights of watching and to fearsK
Sometimes they tie you down to tearsL
And then repay you with a smileM
And make your trouble all worth whileM
They tie you fast to chubby feetN
And cheeks of pink and kisses sweetN
-
'They fasten you with cords of loveO
To God divine who reigns aboveO
They tie you whereso'er you roamP
Unto the little place called homeP
And over sea or railroad trackQ
They tug at you to bring you backQ
The happiest people in the townR
Are those the babies have tied downR
-
'Oh go your selfish way and freeS
But hampered I would rather beS
Yes rather than a kingly crownR
I would be what you term tied downR
Tied down to dancing eyes and charmsT
Held fast by chubby dimpled armsT
The fettered slave of girl and boyU
And win from them earth's finest joy '-
