The World Is Against Me Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEFFGDHHIIGGJJ KKLD

'The world is against me ' he said with a sighA
'Somebody stops every scheme that I tryA
The world has me down and it's keeping me thereB
I don't get a chance Oh the world is unfairB
When a fellow is poor then he can't get a showC
The world is determined to keep him down low 'D
'What of Abe Lincoln ' I asked 'Would you sayE
That he was much richer than you are to dayE
He hadn't your chance of making his markF
And his outlook was often exceedingly darkF
Yet he clung to his purpose with courage most grimG
And he got to the top Was the world against him 'D
'What of Ben Franklin I've oft heard it saidH
That many a time he went hungry to bedH
He started with nothing but courage to climbI
But patiently struggled and waited his timeI
He dangled awhile from real poverty's limbG
Yet he got to the top Was the world against himG
'I could name you a dozen yes hundreds I guessJ
Of poor boys who've patiently climbed to successJ
All boys who were down and who struggled aloneK
Who'd have thought themselves rich if your fortune they'd knownK
Yet they rose in the world you're so quick to condemnL
And I'm asking you now was the world against them 'D
