The Workman's Dream Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGHIHJKJK LMLMANANOGOG

To day it's dirt and dust and steamA
To morrow it will be the sameB
And through it all the soul must dreamA
And try to play a manly gameB
Dirt dust and steam and harsh commandsC
Yet many a soft hand passes byD
And only thinks he understandsC
The purpose of my task and whyD
I've seen men shudder just to seeE
Me standing at this lathe of mineF
And knew somehow they pitied meE
But I have never made a whineF
For out of all this dirt and dustG
And clang and clamor day by dayH
Beyond toil's everlasting 'must 'I
I see my little ones at playH
The hissing steam would drive me madJ
If hissing steam was all I heardK
But there's a boy who calls me dadJ
Who daily keeps my courage spurredK
And there's a little girl who waitsL
Each night for all that I may bringM
And I'm the guardian of their fatesL
Which makes this job a wholesome thingM
Beyond the dust and dirt and steamA
I see a college where he'll goN
And when I shall fulfill my dreamA
More than his father he will knowN
And she shall be a woman fairO
Fit for the world to love and trustG
I'll give my land a glorious pairO
Out of this place of dirt and dustG
