The Unknown Friends Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCBCDE FFGBGBCC HHAIAIJJ

We cannot count our friends nor sayA
How many praise us day by dayA
Each one of us has friends that heB
Has yet to meet and really knowC
Who guard him wheresoe'er they beB
From harm and slander's cruel blowC
They help to light our path with cheerD
Although they pass as strangers hereE
-
These friends unseen unheard unknownF
Our lasting gratitude should ownF
They serve us in a thousand waysG
Where we perhaps should friendless beB
They tell our worth and speak our praiseG
And for their service ask no feeB
They choose to be our friends althoughC
We have not learned to call them soC
-
We cannot guess how large the debtH
We owe to friends we have not metH
We only know from day to dayA
That we discover here and thereI
How one has tried to smooth our wayA
And ease our heavy load of careI
Then passed along and left behindJ
His friendly gift for us to findJ
