The Struggle Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJHKHK

Life is a struggle for peaceA
A longing for restB
A hope for the battles to ceaseA
A dream for the bestB
And he is not living who staysC
Contented with thingsD
Unconcerned with the work of the daysC
And all that it bringsD
-
He is dead who sees nothing to changeE
No wrong to make rightF
Who travels no new way or strangeE
In search of the lightF
Who never sets out for a goalG
That he sees from afarH
But contents his indifferent soulG
With things as they areH
-
Life isn't rest it is toilI
It is building a dreamJ
It is tilling a parcel of soilI
Or bridging a streamJ
It's pursuing the light of a starH
That but dimly we seeK
And in wresting from things as they areH
The joy that should beK
