The Roads Of Happiness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEEGHGH EDEDEBEB IHIHEEEE

The roads of happiness are notA
The selfish roads of pleasure seekingB
Where cheeks are flushed with haste and hotA
And none has time for kindly speakingB
But they're the roads where lovers strayC
Where wives and husbands walk togetherD
And children romp along the wayC
Whenever it is pleasant weatherD
-
The roads of happiness are trodE
By simple folks and tender heartedF
By gentle folks that worship GodE
And want to live their days unpartedE
There kindly people stop and talkG
Regardless of the chase for moneyH
There arm in arm the grown ups walkG
And every eye you see is sunnyH
-
The roads of happiness are linedE
Not with the friends of royal splendorD
But with the loyal friends and kindE
That do the gentle deeds and tenderD
There fame has never brought unrestE
Nor glory set men's hearts to achingB
There unabandoned is life's bestE
For selfish love and money makingB
-
The roads of happiness are thoseI
That do not lead to pomp and gloryH
But wind among the joys and woesI
That make the humble toiler's storyH
The roads that oft we used to treadE
In early days when first we matedE
When hearts were light and cheeks were redE
And days were not with burdens freightedE
