The Real Successes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGBGB EHEHABAB IJIJKBKB ALALIJIJ

You think that the failures are manyA
You think the successes are fewB
But you judge by the rule of the pennyA
And not by the good that men doB
You judge men by standards of treasureC
That merely obtain upon earthD
When the brother you're snubbing may measureC
Full length to God's standard of worthD
-
The failures are not in the ditchesE
The failures are not in the ranksF
They have missed the acquirement of richesE
Their fortunes are not in the banksF
Their virtues are never paradedG
Their worth is not always in viewB
But they're fighting their battles unaidedG
And fighting them honestly tooB
-
There are failures to day in high placesE
The failures aren't all in the lowH
There are rich men with scorn in their facesE
Whose homes are but castles of woeH
The homes that are happy are manyA
And numberless fathers are trueB
And this is the standard if anyA
By which we must judge what men doB
-
Wherever loved ones are awaitingI
The toiler to kiss and caressJ
Though in Bradstreet's he hasn't a ratingI
He still is a splendid successJ
If the dear ones who gather about himK
And know what he's striving to doB
Have never a reason to doubt himK
Is he less successful than youB
-
You think that the failures are manyA
You judge by men's profits in goldL
You judge by the rule of the pennyA
In this true success isn't toldL
This falsely man's story is tellingI
For wealth often brings on distressJ
But wherever love brightens a dwellingI
There lives rich or poor a successJ
