The Proof Of Worth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH DIDIEJEJ KLKLMNMN

Though victory's proof of the skill you possessA
Defeat is the proof of your gritB
A weakling can smile in his days of successA
But at trouble's first sign he will quitB
So the test of the heart and the test of your pluckC
Isn't skies that are sunny and fairD
But how do you stand to the blow that is struckC
And how do you battle despairD
-
A fool can seem wise when the pathway is clearE
And it's easy to see the way outF
But the test of man's judgment is something to fearE
And what does he do when in doubtF
And the proof of his faith is the courage he showsG
When sorrows lie deep in his breastH
It's the way that he suffers the griefs that he knowsG
That brings out his worst or his bestH
-
The test of a man is how much he will bearD
For a cause which he knows to be rightI
How long will he stand in the depths of despairD
How much will he suffer and fightI
There are many to serve when the victory's nearE
And few are the hurts to be borneJ
But it calls for a leader of courage to cheerE
The men in a battle forlornJ
-
It's the way you hold out against odds that are greatK
That proves what your courage is worthL
It's the way that you stand to the bruises of fateK
That shows up your stature and girthL
And victory's nothing but proof of your skillM
Veneered with a glory that's thinN
Unless it is proof of unfaltering willM
And unless you have suffered to winN
