The Old, Old Story Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCB EFEFGDGB BHBHCDI

I have no wish to rail at fateA
And vow that I'm unfairly treatedB
I do not give vent to my hateA
Because at times I am defeatedB
Life has its ups and downs I knowC
But tell me why should people sayD
Whenever after fish I goC
'You should have been here yesterday'B
-
It is my luck always to strikeE
A day when there is nothing doingF
When neither perch nor bass nor pikeE
My baited hooks will come a wooingF
Must I a day late always beG
When not a nibble comes my wayD
Must someone always say to meG
'We caught a bunch here yesterday'B
-
I am not prone to discontentB
Nor over zealous now to climbH
If victory is not yet meantB
For me I'll calmly bide my timeH
But I should like just once to goC
Out fishing on some lake or bayD
And not have someone mutter 'OhI
You should have been here yesterday '-
