The Neighbors Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF GGHHFF IIJJFF KKLLMM EENNOO

WHY do I grind from morn till nightA
And sick or well sit down to writeA
Why do I line my brow with sweatB
An extra buck or two to getB
The reason isn't hard to traceC
For us our neighbors set the paceC
-
The Greens go weekly to a showD
And so of course we have to goD
A dollar fifty per they payE
For seats down in the parquetE
And always they wear evening dressF
We couldn't think of doing lessF
-
The Browns maintain a servant girlG
The one we have was christened PearlG
At dinner several kinds of wineH
They serve in glass of rare designH
Their dinners are a great successF
And ours of course must be no lessF
-
In summer all our neighbors fleeI
Unto the mountains or the seaI
They spend two months in big hotelsJ
And hobnob with the other swellsJ
And though it's costly I confessF
That wife of mine shall do no lessF
-
Two doors from us lives Mrs GroutK
Who owns a lovely runaboutK
And though she's very nice it's plainL
She looks on us with some disdainL
Although it's more than I can doM
My wife will shortly have one tooM
-
I 'd like to take a holidayE
And spend a month or two in playE
I'd like to take an ocean tripN
And give this awful grind the slipN
But there's no rest for me the whileO
We let our neighbors set the styleO
