Oh mother be you brave of heart and keepA
your bright eyes shiningB
Some day the smiles of joy shall start and youC
shall cease repiningB
Beyond the dim and distant line the days ofD
peace are waitingB
When you shall have your soldier fine and menE
shall turn from hatingB
-
Oh mother bear the pain a while as long agoB
you bore itF
You suffered then to win his smile and youC
were happier for itF
And now you suffer once again and bear yourG
weight of sorrowB
Yet you shall thrill with gladness when he winsH
the glad to morrowB
-
Oh mother when the cannons roar and all theI
brave are fightingB
Remember that the son you bore the wrongsJ
of earth is rightingB
Remember through the hours of pain that heK
with all his brothersL
Is battling there to win again a happy worldM
for mothersL
