The Gentle Gardener Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEAE ADFDGHBH IJDJKEIE

I'd like to leave but daffodillsA
to mark my little wayB
To leave but tulips red and whiteC
behind me as I strayB
I'd like to pass away from earthD
and feel I'd left behindE
But roses and forget me notsA
for all who come to findE
-
I'd like to sow the barren spotsA
with all the flowers of earthD
To leave a path where those who comeF
should find but gentle mirthD
And when at last I'm called uponG
to join the heavenly throngH
I'd like to feel along my wayB
I'd left no sign of wrongH
-
And yet the cares are manyI
and the hours of toil are fewJ
There is not time enough on earthD
for all I'd like to doJ
But having lived and having toiledK
I'd like the world to findE
Some little touch of beautyI
that my soul had left behindE
