The Frosting Dish Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHIHIJKJK LDLDMNMCOEOEWhen I was just a little lad | A |
Not more than eight or nine | B |
One special treat to make me glad | A |
Was set apart as 'mine ' | C |
On baking days she granted me | D |
The small boy's dearest wish | E |
And when the cake was finished she | D |
Gave me the frosting dish | E |
I've eaten chocolate many ways | F |
I've had it hot and cold | G |
I've sampled it throughout my days | F |
In every form it's sold | G |
And though I still am fond of it | H |
And hold its flavor sweet | I |
The icing dish I still admit | H |
Remains the greatest treat | I |
Never has chocolate tasted so | J |
Nor brought to me such joy | K |
As in those days of long ago | J |
When I was but a boy | K |
And stood beside my mother fair | L |
Waiting the time when she | D |
Would gently stoop to kiss me there | L |
And hand the plate to me | D |
Now there's another in my place | M |
Who stands where once I stood | N |
And watches with an upturned face | M |
And waits for 'something good ' | C |
And as she hands him spoon and plate | O |
I chuckle low and wish | E |
That I might be allowed to wait | O |
To scrape the frosting dish | E |
