The Frosting Dish Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHIHIJKJK LDLDMNMCOEOE

When I was just a little ladA
Not more than eight or nineB
One special treat to make me gladA
Was set apart as 'mine 'C
On baking days she granted meD
The small boy's dearest wishE
And when the cake was finished sheD
Gave me the frosting dishE
I've eaten chocolate many waysF
I've had it hot and coldG
I've sampled it throughout my daysF
In every form it's soldG
And though I still am fond of itH
And hold its flavor sweetI
The icing dish I still admitH
Remains the greatest treatI
Never has chocolate tasted soJ
Nor brought to me such joyK
As in those days of long agoJ
When I was but a boyK
And stood beside my mother fairL
Waiting the time when sheD
Would gently stoop to kiss me thereL
And hand the plate to meD
Now there's another in my placeM
Who stands where once I stoodN
And watches with an upturned faceM
And waits for 'something good 'C
And as she hands him spoon and plateO
I chuckle low and wishE
That I might be allowed to waitO
To scrape the frosting dishE
