The Evening Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDECFFGAHHIA AAJBKKLBMMNABBIA

Little girlie kneeling thereA
Speaking low your evening prayerA
In your cunning little nightieB
With your pink toes peeping throughC
With your eyes closed and your handsD
Tightly clasped while daddy standsD
In the doorway just to hear theE
'God bless papa ' lisped by youC
You don't know just what I feelF
As I watch you nightly kneelF
By your trundle bed and whisperG
Soft and low your little prayerA
But in all I do or planH
I'm a bigger better manH
Every time I hear you askingI
God to make my journey fairA
-
Little girlie kneeling thereA
Lisping low your evening prayerA
Asking God above to bless meJ
At the closing of each dayB
Oft the tears come to my eyesK
And I feel a big lump riseK
In my throat that I can't swallowL
And I sometimes turn awayB
In the morning when I wakeM
And my post of duty takeM
I go forth with new born courageN
To accomplish what is fairA
And throughout the live long dayB
I am striving every wayB
To come back to you each eveningI
And be worthy of your prayerA
