The ringing voice that cheered us so | B |
In that remembered long ago | B |
Be stilled and yet in sweeter ways | C |

The kindly father comes again | D |

- | |
About us wheresoe'er we tread | F |
Hover the spirits of our dead | F |
We cannot see them as we could | G |
In bygone days when near they stood | G |
And shared the joys and griefs that came | H |
But they are with us just the same | H |
They see us as we plod along | I |
And proudly smile when we are strong | I |
And sigh and grieve the selfsame way | J |
When thoughtlessly we go astray | J |
- | |
I sometimes think it hurts the dead | F |
When into sin and shame we're led | F |
And that they feel a thrill divine | K |
When we've accomplished something fine | K |
And sometimes thoughts that come at night | L |
Seem more like messages that might | L |
Have whispered been by one we love | M |
Whose spirit has been called above | M |
So wise the counsel it must be | N |
That all we are the dead can see | N |
- | |
The dead return They come to share | O |
Our laughter and our bit of care | O |
They glory as they used to do | A |
When we are splendid men and true | A |
In all the joy that we have won | P |

They suffer when we suffer woe | B |
All things about us here they know | B |
And though we never see them here | Q |
Their spirits hover very near | R |
