The Day Of Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDEFGFG HIHIJKJKLMLM NONOPBPBQRQR

A year is filled with glad eventsA
The best is Christmas dayB
But every holiday presentsC
Its special round of playB
And looking back on boyhood nowD
And all the charms it knewE
One day above the rest somehowD
Seems brightest in reviewE
That day was finest I believeF
Though many grown ups scoffG
When mother said that we could leaveF
Our shoes and stockings offG
-
Through all the pleasant days of springH
We begged to know once moreI
The joy of barefoot wanderingH
And quit the shoes we woreI
But always mother shook her headJ
And answered with a smileK
It is too soon too soon she saidJ
Wait just a little whileK
Then came that glorious day at lastL
When mother let us knowM
That fear of taking cold was pastL
And we could barefoot goM
-
Though Christmas day meant much to meN
And eagerly I'd tryO
The first boy on the street to beN
The Fourth day of JulyO
I think the summit of my joyP
Was reached that happy dayB
Each year when as a barefoot boyP
I hastened out to playB
Could I return to childhood fairQ
That day I think I'd chooseR
When mother said I needn't wearQ
My stockings and my shoesR
