The Common Joys Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHIHI JKJKLELE MNMNFOFO

THESE joys are free to all who liveA
The rich and poor the great and lowB
The charms which kindness has to giveC
The smiles which friendship may bestowB
The honor of a well spent lifeD
The glory of a purpose trueE
High courage in the stress of strifeD
And peace when every task is throughE
-
Nor class nor caste nor race nor creedF
Nor greater might can take awayG
The splendor of an honest deedF
Who nobly serves from day to dayG
Shall walk the road of life with prideH
With friends who recognize his worthI
For never are these joys deniedH
Unto the humblest man on earthI
-
Not all may rise to world wide fameJ
Not all may gather fortune's goldK
Not all life's luxuries may claimJ
In differing ways success is toldK
But all may know the peace of mindL
Which comes from service brave and trueE
The poorest man can still be kindL
And nobly live till life is throughE
-
These joys abound for one and allM
The pride of fearing no man's scornN
Of standing firm where others fallM
Of bearing well what must be borneN
He that shall do an honest deedF
Shall win an honest deed's rewardsO
For these no matter race or creedF
Life unto every man affordsO
