The Christmas Gift For Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDBEEB FFBGGB HIBJKB FFBAAB

In the Christmas times of the long agoA
There was one event we used to knowA
That was better than any otherB
It wasn't the toys that we hoped to getC
But the talks we had and I hear them yetC
Of the gift we'd buy for MotherB
-
If ever love fashioned a Christmas giftD
Or saved its money and practiced thriftD
'Twas done in those days my brotherB
Those golden times of Long Gone ByE
Of our happiest years when you and IE
Talked over the gift for MotherB
-
We hadn't gone forth on our different waysF
Nor coined our lives into yesterdaysF
In the fires that smelt and smotherB
And we whispered and planned in our youthful gleeG
Of that marvelous something which was to beG
The gift of our hearts to MotherB
-
It had to be all that our purse could giveH
Something she'd treasure while she could liveI
And better than any otherB
We gave it the best of our love and thoughtJ
And Oh the joy when at last we'd boughtK
That marvelous gift for MotherB
-
Now I think as we go on our different waysF
Of the joy of those vanished yesterdaysF
How good it would be my brotherB
If this Christmas time we could only knowA
That same sweet thrill of the Long AgoA
When we shared in the gift for MotherB
