grayA
And a fellow realizes that he's wandering farB
awayA
From the pleasures of his boyhood and hisC
youth and never moreD
Will know the joy of laughter as he did in daysE
of yoreD
Oh it's then he starts to thinking of a stubbyF
little ladG
With a face as brown as berries and a soulH
supremely gladG
-
When a gray haired dreamer wanders down theI
lanes of memoryF
And forgets the living present for the time ofJ
'used to be '-
He takes off his shoes and stockings and heF
throws his coat awayA
And he's free from all restrictions save the rulesK
of manly playA
He may be in richest garments but bareheadedG
in the sunL
He forgets his proud successes and the richesM
he has wonL
-
Oh there's not a man alive but that would giveN
his all to beF
The stubby little fellow that in dreamland heF
can seeF
And the splendors that surround him and theI
joys about him spreadG
Only seem to rise to taunt him with the boyhoodG
that has fledG
When the hair about the temples starts to showO
Time's silver stainP
Then the richest man that's living yearns to beF
a boy againQ
