Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIJIKGG LMNMNHOH PQRQPJSJ

His mother's eyes are saddened and her cheeksA
are stained with tearsB
And I'm facing now the struggle that I'veC
dreaded through the yearsD
For the boy that was our baby has been changedE
into a manF
He's enlisted in the army as a true AmericanG
-
He held her for a moment in his arms beforeH
he spokeI
And I watched him as he kissed her and itJ
seemed to me I'd chokeI
For I knew just what was coming and I knewK
just what he'd doneG
'Another little mother had a soldier for a sonG
-
When we'd pulled ourselves together and theL
first quick tears had driedM
We could see his eyes were blazing with the fireN
of manly prideM
We could see his head was higher than it everN
was beforeH
For we had a man to cherish and our baby wasO
no moreH
-
Oh I don't know how to say it With the sorrowP
comes the joyQ
That there isn't any coward in the make up ofR
our boyQ
And with pride our hearts are swelling thoughP
with grief they're also hitJ
For the boy that was our baby has steppedS
forth to do his bitJ
