Thanksgiving Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGCC HHIIJJKK LLIIMMNN

Gettin' together to smile an' rejoiceA
An' eatin' an' laughin' with folks of your choiceA
An' kissin' the girls an' declarin' that theyB
Are growin more beautiful day after dayB
Chattin' an' braggin' a bit with the menC
Buildin' the old family circle againC
Livin' the wholesome an' old fashioned cheerD
Just for awhile at the end of the yearD
-
Greetings fly fast as we crowd through the doorE
And under the old roof we gather once moreE
Just as we did when the youngsters were smallF
Mother's a little bit grayer that's allF
Father's a little bit older but stillG
Ready to romp an' to laugh with a willG
Here we are back at the table againC
Tellin' our stories as women an menC
-
Bowed are our heads for a moment in prayerH
Oh but we're grateful an' glad to be thereH
Home from the east land an' home from the westI
Home with the folks that are dearest an' bestI
Out of the sham of the cities afarJ
We've come for a time to be just what we areJ
Here we can talk of ourselves an' be frankK
Forgettin' position an' station an' rankK
-
Give me the end of the year an' its funL
When most of the plannin' an' toilin' is doneL
Bring all the wanderers home to the nestI
Let me sit down with the ones I love bestI
Hear the old voices still ringin' with songM
See the old faces unblemished by wrongM
See the old table with all of its chairsN
An I'll put soul in my Thanksgivin' prayersN
