Rhyme Scheme: ABACDCE CFCGHIHJ KLKLMNON DPDPQHQHI do | A |
Full many a time has she exclaimed | B |
'A month ago that suit was new | A |
Now look at all the dreadful stains | C |
That mar the coat and spoil the vest | D |
It seems to me if you'd take pains | C |
Your clothing wouldn't get so messed ' | E |
- | |
But I am proud of all those stains | C |
I do not care for garments clean | F |
For every shining mark explains | C |
Where sticky little hands have been | G |
Each smudge is but a symbol of | H |
A roguish youngster's fond caress | I |
A badge of trusting constant love | H |
A token of real happiness | J |
- | |
I may be careless in my way | K |
Perhaps my clothes are a disgrace | L |
But when that baby comes to play | K |
And holds me in her fond embrace | L |
I love her sticky fingers more | M |
Than any tailored suit of mine | N |
And she may thumb my garments o'er | O |
For every spot she leaves is fine | N |
- | |
I wish no spotless coat and vest | D |
If baby hands I have to check | P |
It matters not how I am dressed | D |
I want her arms about my neck | P |
Yes finger marked my clothes may be | Q |
But they are marks I'm proudest of | H |
Let sticky fingers come to me | Q |
And stamp me with their seals of love | H |
