Spoiling Them Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IJJKKLL MMNNOPQ'You're spoiling them ' the mother cries | A |
When I give way to weepy eyes | A |
And let them do the things they wish | B |
Like cleaning up the jelly dish | B |
Or finishing the chocolate cake | C |
Or maybe let the rascal take | C |
My piece of huckleberry pie | D |
Because he wants it more than I | D |
- | |
'You're spoiling them ' the mother tells | E |
When I am heedless to their yells | E |
And let them race and romp about | F |
And do not put their joy to rout | F |
I know I should be firm and yet | G |
I tried it once to my regret | G |
I will remember till I'm old | H |
The day I started in to scold | H |
- | |
I stamped my foot and shouted 'Stop ' | - |
And Bud just let his drum sticks drop | I |
And looked at me and turned away | J |
That night there was no further play | J |
The girls were solemn like and still | K |
Just as girls are when they are ill | K |
And when unto his cot I crept | L |
I found him sobbing as he slept | L |
- | |
That was my first attempt and last | M |
To play the scold I'm glad it passed | M |
So quickly and has left no trace | N |
Of memory on each little face | N |
But now when mother whispers low | O |
'You're spoiling them ' I answer 'No | P |
But it is plain as plain can be | Q |
Those little tykes are spoiling me ' | - |
