Rebellion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHIJI KLMLNFCFOPJP QRCRLSTSSFU

'My Crown Prince was fine and fair ' a sorrowfulA
father saidB
'But he marched away with his regiment andC
they tell me that he's deadB
'We all must go ' he whispered low 'We mustD
fight for the Fatherland 'E
Now the heart of me's torn with the grief IF
know and I cannot understandG
For none of the Kaiser's princes lie out thereH
where my soldier sleepsI
Here's a land where grief is the common lot butJ
never the Kaiser weepsI
-
'My Crown Prince was a kindly prince and hisK
eyes were gentle tooL
And glad were the days of his youth to me whenM
his wonderful smile I knewL
Then the Kaiser flattered and spoke him wellN
and he sent him out to dieF
But his Crown Prince hasn't felt one hurt andC
the heart of me questions whyF
He talks of war in his regal way and he boastsO
of his strength to strikeP
But his boys all live and he doesn't know whatJ
the sting of a bullet's likeP
-
'Rebellion gnaws at the soul of me as I thinkQ
of his Crown Prince gayR
And my Prince cold in the arms of death andC
harsh are the things I sayR
I join with the grief torn muttering men whoL
challenge the Kaiser's rightS
To build his joys on the graves of ours WeT
shall rise in our wrath to smiteS
And this is the thing we shall ask of him toS
give us the reason whyF
Our boys must fall on his battlefields but neverU
his boys must die '-
