Rebellion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHIJI KLMLNFCFOPJP QRCRLSTSSFU'My Crown Prince was fine and fair ' a sorrowful | A |
father said | B |
'But he marched away with his regiment and | C |
they tell me that he's dead | B |
'We all must go ' he whispered low 'We must | D |
fight for the Fatherland ' | E |
Now the heart of me's torn with the grief I | F |
know and I cannot understand | G |
For none of the Kaiser's princes lie out there | H |
where my soldier sleeps | I |
Here's a land where grief is the common lot but | J |
never the Kaiser weeps | I |
- | |
'My Crown Prince was a kindly prince and his | K |
eyes were gentle too | L |
And glad were the days of his youth to me when | M |
his wonderful smile I knew | L |
Then the Kaiser flattered and spoke him well | N |
and he sent him out to die | F |
But his Crown Prince hasn't felt one hurt and | C |
the heart of me questions why | F |
He talks of war in his regal way and he boasts | O |
of his strength to strike | P |
But his boys all live and he doesn't know what | J |
the sting of a bullet's like | P |
- | |
'Rebellion gnaws at the soul of me as I think | Q |
of his Crown Prince gay | R |
And my Prince cold in the arms of death and | C |
harsh are the things I say | R |
I join with the grief torn muttering men who | L |
challenge the Kaiser's right | S |
To build his joys on the graves of ours We | T |
shall rise in our wrath to smite | S |
And this is the thing we shall ask of him to | S |
give us the reason why | F |
Our boys must fall on his battlefields but never | U |
his boys must die ' | - |
