Rather Stay Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD AAEEFFGG AABBHHII

NEVER so happy as when I 'm at homeA
I 'm not so anxious to wander or roamA
Rather sit down with the folks who love meB
With somebody's youngster astride of my kneeB
And gallop him off to the wonderful landC
Where armies are waiting his word to commandC
Than listen to speeches by eloquent menD
Who shout for an hour and then sit down againD
-
Never so happy as when I 'm at homeA
Rather play tunes with a paper and combA
For a boy or a girl who may drop in to callE
For it's there that I shine if I do shine at allE
Rather sing ditties to tots that I knowF
Than go to a party or go to a showF
Or listen to grown ups with wisdom expoundG
As their arms saw the air and the tables they poundG
-
Never so happy as when I 'm at homeA
Don't care to journey to Naples or RomeA
Rather stay here with the folks who love meB
Than run after strangers whoever they beB
A nod from a king or a smile from a lordH
Wouldn't please me a bit I 'd be terribly boredH
Rather stay here where I 'm loved and I 'm knownI
Than get on my knees before any old throneI
