Rather Stay Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD AAEEFFGG AABBHHIINEVER so happy as when I 'm at home | A |
I 'm not so anxious to wander or roam | A |
Rather sit down with the folks who love me | B |
With somebody's youngster astride of my knee | B |
And gallop him off to the wonderful land | C |
Where armies are waiting his word to command | C |
Than listen to speeches by eloquent men | D |
Who shout for an hour and then sit down again | D |
- | |
Never so happy as when I 'm at home | A |
Rather play tunes with a paper and comb | A |
For a boy or a girl who may drop in to call | E |
For it's there that I shine if I do shine at all | E |
Rather sing ditties to tots that I know | F |
Than go to a party or go to a show | F |
Or listen to grown ups with wisdom expound | G |
As their arms saw the air and the tables they pound | G |
- | |
Never so happy as when I 'm at home | A |
Don't care to journey to Naples or Rome | A |
Rather stay here with the folks who love me | B |
Than run after strangers whoever they be | B |
A nod from a king or a smile from a lord | H |
Wouldn't please me a bit I 'd be terribly bored | H |
Rather stay here where I 'm loved and I 'm known | I |
Than get on my knees before any old throne | I |
