When the umpire calls you outA
It's no use to stamp and shoutA
Wildly kicking dust aboutA
Play the gameB
And though his decision mayC
End your chances for the dayC
Rallies often end that wayC
Play the gameB
When the umpire shouts 'Strike two 'D
And the ball seems wide to youE
There is just one thing to doE
Play the gameB
Keep your temper at the plateF
Grit your teeth and calmly waitF
For the next one may be straightF
Play the gameB
When you think the umpire's wrongG
Tell him so but jog alongG
Nothing's gained by language strongG
Play the gameB
For his will must be obeyedH
Wheresoever baseball's playedH
Take his verdict as it's madeH
Play the gameB
Son of mine beyond a doubtA
Fate shall often call you 'out 'D
But keep on with courage stoutA
Play the gameB
In the battlefield of menI
There'll come trying moments whenI
You shall lose the verdict thenI
Play the gameB
There's an umpire who shall sayC
You have missed your greatest playC
And shall dash your hopes awayC
Play the gameB
You must bow unto his willJ
Though your chance it seems to killJ
And you think he erred but stillJ
Play the gameB
For the Great Umpire aboveK
Sees what we see nothing ofK
By His wisdom and His loveK
Play the gameB
Keep your faith in Him althoughL
His grim verdicts hurt you soL
At His Will we come and goL
Play the gameB
