Picture Books Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEFFGGHH IIJJCCKK LLGGMMNN OOPPDDQ

I HOLD the finest picture booksA
Are woods an' fields an' runnin' brooksA
An' when the month o' May has doneB
Her paintin' an' the mornin' sunB
Is lightin' just exactly rightC
Each gorgeous scene for mortal sightC
I steal a day from toil an' goD
To see the springtime's picture showD
-
It's everywhere I choose to treadE
Perhaps I'll find a violet bedE
Half hidden by the larger scenesF
Or group of ferns or living greensF
So graceful an' so fine I swearG
That angels must have placed them thereG
To beautify the lonely spotH
That mortal man would have forgotH
-
What hand can paint a picture bookI
So marvelous as a runnin' brookI
It matters not what time o' dayJ
You visit it the sunbeams playJ
Upon it just exactly rightC
The mysteries of God to lightC
No human brush could ever traceK
A droopin' willow with such graceK
-
Page after page new beauties riseL
To thrill with gladness an' surpriseL
The soul of him who drops his careG
And seeks the woods to wander thereG
Birds with the angel gift o' songM
Make music for him all day longM
An' nothin' that is base or meanN
Disturbs the grandeur of the sceneN
-
There is no hint of hate or strifeO
The woods display the joy of lifeO
An' answer with a silence fineP
The scoffer's jeer at power divineP
When doubt is high an' faith is lowD
Back to the woods an' fields I goD
An' say to violet and treeQ
'No mortal hand has fashioned thee '-
