Mothers And Wives Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABACBDEDE FGFHIEIE JDJDKLKL MNMOPEPEMothers and wives 'tis the call to arms | A |
That the bugler yonder prepares to sound | B |
We stand on the brink of war's alarms | A |
And your men may lie on a blood stained | C |
ground | B |
The drums may play and the flags may fly | D |
And our boys may don the brown and blue | E |
And the call that summons brave men to die | D |
Is the call for glorious women too | E |
- | |
Mothers and wives if the summons comes | F |
You as ever since war has been | G |
Must hear with courage the rolling drums | F |
And dry your tears when the flags are seen | H |
For never has hero fought and died | I |
Who has braver been than the mother who | E |
Buckled his sabre at his side | I |
And sent him forward to dare and do | E |
- | |
Mothers and wives should the call ring out | J |
It is you must answer your country's cry | D |
You must furnish brave hearts and stout | J |
For the firing line where the heroes die | D |
And never a corpse on the field of strife | K |
Should be honoured more in his country's sight | L |
Than the noble mother or noble wife | K |
Who sent him forth in the cause of right | L |
- | |
Mothers and wives 'tis the call for men | M |
To give their strength and to give their lives | N |
But well we know such a summons then | M |
Is the call for mothers and loyal wives | O |
For you must give us the strength we need | P |
You must give us the boys in blue | E |
For never a boy or a man shall bleed | P |
But a mother or wife shall suffer too | E |
