Mothers And Wives Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACBDEDE FGFHIEIE JDJDKLKL MNMOPEPE

Mothers and wives 'tis the call to armsA
That the bugler yonder prepares to soundB
We stand on the brink of war's alarmsA
And your men may lie on a blood stainedC
groundB
The drums may play and the flags may flyD
And our boys may don the brown and blueE
And the call that summons brave men to dieD
Is the call for glorious women tooE
-
Mothers and wives if the summons comesF
You as ever since war has beenG
Must hear with courage the rolling drumsF
And dry your tears when the flags are seenH
For never has hero fought and diedI
Who has braver been than the mother whoE
Buckled his sabre at his sideI
And sent him forward to dare and doE
-
Mothers and wives should the call ring outJ
It is you must answer your country's cryD
You must furnish brave hearts and stoutJ
For the firing line where the heroes dieD
And never a corpse on the field of strifeK
Should be honoured more in his country's sightL
Than the noble mother or noble wifeK
Who sent him forth in the cause of rightL
-
Mothers and wives 'tis the call for menM
To give their strength and to give their livesN
But well we know such a summons thenM
Is the call for mothers and loyal wivesO
For you must give us the strength we needP
You must give us the boys in blueE
For never a boy or a man shall bleedP
But a mother or wife shall suffer tooE
