His Room Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGI JKLKMBMB NONOPQPQ

His room is as it used to beA
Before he went awayB
The walls still keep the pennants heA
Brought home but yesterdayB
The picture of his baseball teamC
Still holds its favored spotD
And oh it seems a dreadful dreamC
This age of shell and shotD
-
His golf clubs in the corner standE
His tennis racket tooF
That once the pressure of his handE
In times of laughter knewF
Is in the place it long has keptG
For us to look uponH
The room is as it was exceptG
The boy himself has goneI
-
The pictures of his girls are hereJ
Still smiling as of yoreK
And everything that he held dearL
Is treasured as beforeK
Into his room his mother goesM
As usual day by dayB
And cares for it although she knowsM
Our boy is far awayB
-
We keep it as he left it whenN
He bade us all good byeO
Though I confess that now and thenN
We view it with a sighO
For never night shall thrill with joyP
Nor day be free from gloomQ
Until once more our soldier boyP
Shall occupy his roomQ
