But Pete must sadly walk around | C |
An' miss the master that he knew | J |

The hurt I feel I needn't tell | K |
I guess by all it's understood | C |
But Pete his dog that used to wait | C |
Each night to hear his cheery call | L |
An' romped about him at the gate | C |
Has felt the blow the worst of all | L |
