He Who Serves Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF GGHIJJ KKFFDD

He has not served who gathers goldA
Nor has he served whose life is toldA
In selfish battles he has wonB
Or deeds of skill that he has doneB
But he has served who now and thenC
Has helped along his fellow menC
-
The world needs many men todayD
Red blooded men along life's wayD
With cheerful smiles and helping handsE
And with the faith that understandsE
The beauty of the simple deedF
Which serves another's hour of needF
-
Strong men to stand beside the weakG
Kind men to hear what others speakG
True men to keep our country's lawsH
And guard its honor and its causeI
Men who will bravely play life's gameJ
Nor ask rewards of gold and fameJ
-
Teach me to do the best I canK
To help and cheer our fellow manK
Teach me to lose my selfish needF
And glory in the larger deedF
Which smoothes the road and lights the dayD
For all who chance to come my wayD
