Glad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFCDCD BGBGCDCD HIHIJDCDThere's a battered old drum on the floor | A |
And a Teddy bear sleeps in my chair | B |
There's a doll carriage barring the door | A |
Ah it's weeks since she trundled it there | B |
There are building blocks strewn in the hall | C |
And a train of cars wrecked on the track | D |
And I smile as I gaze at them all | C |
Thank goodness the children are back | D |
- | |
There's a handkerchief tied to my cane | E |
That's a flag that a soldier boy bears | F |
Now the yard is a grim battle plain | E |
And the soldiers are marching in pairs | F |
There are finger marks now on the wall | C |
That were left there by hands that were black | D |
But I smile as I gaze at them all | C |
Thank goodness the children are back | D |
- | |
There are cries of delight and despair | B |
Resounding once more through the place | G |
There are pillow fights fierce on the stair | B |
And down through the hall there's a race | G |
There's a bump of a terrible fall | C |
As the enemy's camp they attack | D |
But I smile as I list to it all | C |
Thank goodness the children are back | D |
- | |
For give me the clamor and noise | H |
And give me the pranks that they play | I |
The disturbance of girls and of boys | H |
That comes at the end of the day | I |
For I'm sick of monotony's pall | J |
That hovered for weeks o'er the shack | D |
It is music to me when they call | C |
Thank goodness the children are back | D |
