Glad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFCDCD BGBGCDCD HIHIJDCD

There's a battered old drum on the floorA
And a Teddy bear sleeps in my chairB
There's a doll carriage barring the doorA
Ah it's weeks since she trundled it thereB
There are building blocks strewn in the hallC
And a train of cars wrecked on the trackD
And I smile as I gaze at them allC
Thank goodness the children are backD
-
There's a handkerchief tied to my caneE
That's a flag that a soldier boy bearsF
Now the yard is a grim battle plainE
And the soldiers are marching in pairsF
There are finger marks now on the wallC
That were left there by hands that were blackD
But I smile as I gaze at them allC
Thank goodness the children are backD
-
There are cries of delight and despairB
Resounding once more through the placeG
There are pillow fights fierce on the stairB
And down through the hall there's a raceG
There's a bump of a terrible fallC
As the enemy's camp they attackD
But I smile as I list to it allC
Thank goodness the children are backD
-
For give me the clamor and noiseH
And give me the pranks that they playI
The disturbance of girls and of boysH
That comes at the end of the dayI
For I'm sick of monotony's pallJ
That hovered for weeks o'er the shackD
It is music to me when they callC
Thank goodness the children are backD
