Rhyme Scheme: ABABCD CECEBB FGFGHH IJIJKK ALALB

GIVE me the prettiest valentineA
You've got in the shop ' said heB
'One with the tenderest sort o' lineA
In type that her eyes can seeB
One that she won't need her specs to readC
'I love you my darling ' is all I needD
-
'A line o' love from an old bald headC
An' a throb from a battered heartE
An old skeezicks with a feeble treadC
A lover no longer smartE
An' she ain't as young as she used t' beB
But she looks for her valentine still from meB
-
'I wish they made old folks' valentinesF
With gray heads close togetherG
An' printed 'em too with loving linesF
About fair and stormy weatherG
An' showed the old man an' his gray haired wifeH
Walking arm in arm on the edge of lifeH
-
'We've traveled the road from youth to ageI
Without missin' a single kissJ
In our book o' life every written pageI
Has something o' joy and blissJ
An' though it ain't long till we go aboveK
We 're nearing the end with a load o' loveK
-
'So give me your prettiest valentineA
An' I'll send it along todayL
To that wonderful old sweetheart o' mineA
Whose tresses are thin and grayL
But I wish they made valentines ' said heB
'For seventy year lovers like ma an' me '-
