Be more than his dadA
Be a chum to the ladA
Be a part of his lifeB
Every hour of the dayC
Find time to talk with himD
Take time to walk with himD
Share in his studiesE
And share in his playC
Take him to placesF
To ball games and racesF
Teach him the thingsG
That you want him to knowH
Don't live apart from himD
Don't keep your heart from himD
Be his best comradeA
He's needing you soH
-
Never neglect himD
Though young still respect himD
Hear his opinionsI
With patience and prideJ
Show him his errorK
But be not a terrorK
Grim visaged and fearfulL
When he's at your sideJ
Know what his thoughts areM
Know what his sports areM
Know all his playmatesN
It's easy to learn toO
Be such a fatherK
That when troubles gatherK
You'll be the first oneP
For counsel he'll turn toO
-
You can inspire himD
With courage and fire himD
Hot with ambitionP
For deeds that are goodQ
He'll not betray youO
Nor illy repay youO
If you have taught himD
The things that you shouldQ
Father and sonP
Must in all things be oneP
Partners in troubleL
And comrades in joyR
More than a dadA
Was the best pal you hadA
Be such a chumS
As you knew to your boyR
