Rhyme Scheme: ABCAA DEEFF GHHGG IJJII KLLKThis much I know | A |
God does not wrong us here | B |
Though oft His judgments seem severe | C |
And reason falters 'neath the blow | A |
Some day we'll learn 'twas better so | A |
- | |
So oft I've erred | D |
In trifling matters of my own concern | E |
So oft I've blundered at the simplest turn | E |
Chosen the false path or the foolish word | F |
That what I call my judgment seems absurd | F |
- | |
My puny reason cries | G |
Against the bitter and the cruel blows | H |
Measuring the large world by the inch it knows | H |
Seeing all joy and pain through selfish eyes | G |
Not knowing hurt and suffering may be wise | G |
- | |
But I have come to see | I |
So vast God's love so infinite His plan | J |
That it is well it was not left to man | J |
To alter or to say what is to be | I |
When reason failed faith also then would flee | I |
- | |
God knoweth best | K |
Through the black night and agony of grief | L |
Faith whispers low 'Hold fast to your belief | L |
In time His purpose He shall manifest | K |
Then shall you learn how greatly you were blest ' | - |
